Hello, Gentle Readers!

I hope you're having a good week and looking forward to a pleasant, restful weekend ahead. Since I'm retired, I'm not as much into weekends as I used to be. As a nurse, I worked at least ever other weekend, and later as a high school health science teacher, I did get to enjoy the five day week with weekends and summers off, so that was nice, for sure. Then, as a nursing instructor, I went back to working odd hours and every other weekend again. So, for those of you looking forward to some days off, you have my total. understanding on that.

These days, however, even though I no longer work as a nurse, a teacher or a nursing instructor, I spend my days trying to carve out time for writing. I basically see myself as work from home person. One thing does bind my pre retirement life to now is that I still find it hard to carve out time to write. Even though I no longer punch a clock, the hours seems to be even harder to wrangle into submission. But, it must be done if I ever want to get back to the business of writing.

So, after taking two Sarra Cannon courses, the Publish and Thrive series and the HB90, I've learned a lot about the indie publishing industry and my own organizational shortfalls. They have helped immensely and are pretty much the reason I'm sitting her writing this blog right now. Many thanks to Sarra and the Heart Breathings community.

So, what have I accomplished? Well, I've started making daily task lists and managing to complete at least 75 percent of my tasks, so that's definitely an improvement. It's given me a clear path to organizing my writing life as well. Even when I worked as a nurse, organization was tough. Luckily I learned how to prioritize and I think that saved me from falling into chaos. And, as any nurse will tell you--chaos is a place you do not want to visit.

Another thing that Sarra's classes have helped me to improve was my decisions about what I'm actually writing. I've always been that little dog marching happily along until I saw the squirrel. For me, that 'squirrel' is a shiny new story, hero, heroine, plot, setting, genre.... Well, you get the picture. I currently have written: Contemporary romance, Medical romance, historical romance, Regency romance, Paranormal romance, historical western romance--both novels and short stories, Urban fantasy romance and time travel romance. I've dabbled in all of the romantic elements from light erotica to nothing more intimate than a kiss. series fiction and stand alone books.

Since finishing my courses though I've begun to tackle a new romance fantasy series and I'm super stoked about it. Of course, I have a few titles I need to finish edits on and put out there as well. One thing is certain in all this sometimes overwhelming literary life, I'm doing my best to move forward in my career. So, instead of a pirate's life, it's a writer's life for me!
